The area being addressed is located in the heart of Borgo Cappuccini, near the mouth of the Caramagna Creek, and is an important meeting point for the local community. However, its current state has several critical issues, including poorly maintained flower beds, uneven paving, heterogeneous street furniture, and obsolete separations between the square and the beach.

Project goals

The intervention aims to restore a harmonious and functional appearance to the square, improving its accessibility and integration with its surroundings. A central aspect of the project is the redevelopment of the area after the construction of the lift, which will be masked and integrated into the new urban layout.

Main interventions

  • New paving: the square will be completely repaved with fine materials. On the sea side, pebbles from Salizzo dè Cogoli will be used, simulating continuity with the beach, while the inner part will be finished with Verezzo stone and Asian Teak wood inserts.
  • Green areas and street furniture: curvilinear flowerbeds will be created with new trees (Morus platanifolia) and shrubs, bordered by concrete curbs enriched with colored grits.
  • New seating and socializing spaces: the existing benches will be replaced by wooden and steel seating systems, creating areas of shade and relaxation. The area will be equipped with modular elements for resting and conviviality.
  • Renovated lighting: new designer lighting points will be installed, with streetlights “mininuvola” for pedestrian spaces and specific solutions for vehicular traffic.
  • Integration with the beach: the boundary between the plaza and the beach will be redefined with wooden seating and masonry planters, ensuring a harmonious transition between spaces.

This intervention will return the square to its central role in the life of the neighborhood, improving its aesthetics, usability and quality of public spaces.
